11 Years Ago Today I Married The Love Of My Life!

This was the day Phil asked me to marry him.  I’ll never forget it.

It was 6:55 am and already about 85 degrees in sunny Florida.  It was supposed to be my day off  but my boss called me in to report on the show that Phil was anchoring.  I was furious that I had to get out of bed at 3:00 am.  We were both working for CBS in Miami, at the time.  Little did I know the entire news team was in on a big secret!  I spent the morning reporting live from a scene and then five minutes before the show ended Phil proposed on the air!   It was beautiful and romantic and I was absolutely stunned!  I said yes, of course, and then my photographer drove me back to the station where Phil was waiting with the ring.  It seemed very appropriate that he would ask me to marry him during the show since we had spent our entire relationship working in news together!

We were married on January 27, 2001.

I still can’t believe 11 years have passed…honestly, where did the time go?

I remember the day like it was yesterday.  It was freezing outside…but then again, it was January.  Just before the ceremony started, a light snow began to fall…it was so beautiful.  We had originally planned a June wedding, but moved it up to January when Phil’s dad became very sick. We wanted him to be able to dance and enjoy himself at the wedding, while he still felt well. I’m so glad we made that decision. Not only did Mike have a wonderful time, but there was something very cozy, warm and intimate about a candlelit service and reception on a stormy winter night.

We gathered before the service to sign the Ketubah.

Then, it was time! I headed down the aisle of the synagogue where Phil’s mom, Emily, was senior rabbi, at the time. How lucky we were that she could perform the ceremony! It made it even more special.

The reception was magical. There is nothing quite like being surrounded by all of the people you love for an evening of dinner, dancing, cake, champagne and beautiful toasts.

If only we could do it all again…it was over in the blink of an eye.

What hasn’t ended, though, is the magic.  I never imagined I could possibly love Phil more today than the day we were married…but, I do. My life changed for the better the day we met. Our relationship has evolved and grown even stronger. He is a wonderful man and a loving husband and father.  I am grateful for his friendship, love and undying support.

Happy Anniversary, Phil!  Thank you for 11 amazing years.  I love you so much ♥
