Kudos American Girl!!
Kudos to American Girl for adding more special needs items to it’s already fabulous collection of dolls and accessories! I was thrilled to see there is now a line of dolls available, that have no hair, for girls suffering from cancer, alopecia or other medical conditions. This is what they look like:
There are 5 adorable dolls to choose from. Aren’t they fantastic?!
First Mattel agreed to make a bald Barbie after a women started a Facebook campaign that gained national support…
…and now American Girl has jumped on the bandwagon. Here’s what the company had to say:
“For more than a year, American Girl has been hard at work developing a doll without hair option for girls affected by cancer, alopecia, or any medical condition causing hair loss. Debuting today as part of the My American Girl® line, the new dolls provide even more possibilities for a girl to create a friend that’s as unique as she is. Due to special handling, orders for the new dolls will be taken exclusively through our contact center by calling 1-800-628-5145. These special dolls also will be included in our $100,000+ annual doll donation to the Children’s Hospital Association.”
If you already have an American Girl doll and your daughter would like to have the hair removed…the company is willing do it. You simply bring or ship your doll to the American Girl Doll Hospital and they will replace the head.
Other American Girl special needs accessories include a service dog, hearing aide and allergy free lunch.
A couple years ago, Daniella’s Grandma gave her a special gift…an American Girl doll that looks just like her…she still loves it! Now girls affected by cancer and alopecia can have this special gift too. That’s wonderful!
Way to go, American Girl!
